This article analyzes the orientations of the “new woman” concept in American fiction, presents the features of the perceptions of femininity in the neo-romantic novels of the American writer Jack London. London’s heroines epitomize the new woman, who is adventurous, pleasureseeking, free from family bonds and who, at the same time, has moral values and no right to free love.
In all the mentioned aspects, the equality of a new woman with a man does not give a woman an additional role or power. She remains a woman in all her femininity and charm who is faithful to the values determining the roles of men and women.
